This is really happening -- today, right now!
Last night Kevin McCarthy made another concession to the MAGA extremists. And they still want more. As long as he keeps giving, they'll keep demanding.
But every concession he makes also increases our chance of swaying a few moderates to break with him. What's the point of having a "leader" whose every move is subject to a veto by the most extreme faction of the party? Not every Republican needs MAGA votes to win in their home district.
We need to give it our all today and in the next few days.
This will be an hour-to-hour struggle. McCarthy has scheduled a conference call for this afternoon among the various caucuses and factions. So keep at it!
Also, I think we need a third script -- one that's more positive and looks to the healing potential of a bipartisan majority working with a moderate Republican Speaker.
Could someone help with that? I have a medical commitment today that'll keep me occupied for the next few hours. Just send me something and I’ll pass it on.
Important Note:
The phone number for Brian Fitzpatrick is (202) 225-4276.
I think Mr. Fitzpatrick is one of our best prospects for withdrawing support for McCarthy. He represents a swing district just north of Philadelphia that Biden carried in 2020. In fact, I'd go so far as to say, if you only make one call, make it to:
Brian Fitzpatrick....(202) 225-4276.
That brings up another important point. One person noted that some names on the list are obviously never going to abandon McCarthy, such as Darrell Issa and Nancy Mace. I agree. I just chose the Republicans who supported the Respect For Marriage Act, but it would be good to thin out the list.
Could someone help with that too? Surprisingly, Wikipedia has a pretty thorough summary of each person's policy positions on their individual listing. Anyone have time to look them up?
Thanks to everyone for pitching in. It's great to hear cheering from the sidelines, but we need everyone on the field now.
This is our chance to actually defeat the MAGA forces in Congress.
I can hardly believe it myself, but it's true. Another opportunity like this won't come along soon.
