The Presidential Act of 1947 as amended would put the President pro tempore of the Senate-- Chuck Grassley, oldest member of the Senate at age 91 and not in great health (currently in the hospital to treat an infection) in the White House. I doubt that he would want to take the office, and he should be asked to step aside if he would not remove himself from the succession voluntarily. Then the succession falls to members of the Cabinet, fortunately beginning with Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who does not seem to be hard-core MAGA unlike the rest of that miserable list of Cabinet members. Also fortunately for its chance of happening, this process would not entail transition from Republican to Democratic Administration. The crucial Republican votes would not be available for that. But a transition from MAGA to conventional Republican seems possible.
If Trump fired Rubio to get him out of the line of succession, getting Jeffries in as Speaker of the House before impeaching Trump and Vance might be necessary, but it would make getting Republican support more difficult. But when the public outcry for removal becomes sufficiently overwhelming, non-MAGA Republicans in Congress might step up.
Treason is the reason they may flip. Duty, honor, country. Both Trump and Vance are traitors.
Here in Baghdad By the Sea we have 3 House members who are extermely vulnerable as they represent Dem districts. 2 of the 3 had been Dems, and one flipped in 2020 after having been a Dem elected mayor. He was born in Cuba, his electorate is mostly Hispanic and the Cubans and Venezuelans are irate over 1. discrimination against Hispanics in the Trump administragtion and 2. deportations of erstwhile resident aliens. Putin is the ally of the Cuban commies.

I have , for several weeks , advocated Impeachment. Until the country understands that we have no other alternative , as you Jerry state…, the answer is in full bloom in front of us. This is the only answer to what is an overwhelming terror going through this country.

Two substantive comments...the 'enemy' is more than Trump or even those in the top three positions that can be impeached. It is a rather large MAGA movement of hard right ideologies. Impeachment, even if successful, might only be the start of the war. Second, the 'coup' seems recent (and in some ways this is true). However, as I argue in my recent post (Amidah), the groundwork for this coup goes back decades. The hard right has had a long game from the beginning, and it has paved yhe way for today's crisis. Again, keep it up.
This is only the beginning, but it's a good beginning--better than any other suggestions I've seen. The long game involves so much more work, but it depends on this first step.
