Thanks, Jean. I couldn't agree more. The level of indifference we see among so many of our fellow citizens is IMHO directly related to the lack of education -- not just lack of schooling, but also lack of access to truthful information.
I am horrified and embarrassed by the Oval Office attempted lynching of a hero and a saint. It only increases my commitment to the Ukrainian cause, to the impeachment effort and to Democratic Congressional elections across the country.
I too was horrified, ML. It surely was another wake-up call to those who've been reluctant to acknowledge the threat to our national security posed by this President and his sycophants.
I fully agree with the words of Cricket Halsey. I could find a better way to express my thoughts and feelings other than to tell you that my Ukranian national flag will continue to fly proudly in front of our home in Maumee, Ohio
Well Dale, I've long since abandoned any expectation of privacy online. Every word we post, every email we send can probably be retrieved by someone with the skills to do so. Whether the office is there, I obviously couldn't say. But I trust that information provided by Tim Snyder is probably reliable.
As to fear, FDR advised that fear itself is what we should fear most.
I've wondered about this for a long time too, Abraham. But the more I learn about Trump's "career", the more convinced I am that there is no such dirt -- or more accurately, there is so much dirt that nothing in particular is a threat to him.
As an utterly amoral narcissist, completely without shame, his approach to life is thoroughly transactional. For decades, he's worked in partnership with the Russian oligarchy, and what we're seeing today is the natural culmination of that history.
I think it's admirable but probably naive for us to continue thinking that no American citizen would willingly cooperate with an enemy of the United States unless he's being threatened in some way. More likely, he's just trading favors, like he always has.
thank you for posting the organizations we can donate to and the address we can write to. I am so humiliated - Taking a direct action in support of President Z and the Ukrainians will help me regain some degree of stability in my thinking again, as opposed to merely waffling in the "aint it awful" realm that continues to be generated by the current situation. I have a lot of different colored lights that go up outside my little house for each holiday or season- not just the December holidays, but others throughout the year - and today, I resolve to go find some blue and some yellow strands and light them up. If neighbors comment, I will share with them how they, too,can send direct support to the Ukrainian people and President Zelensky, thanks to this site. thank you for being here, Community. We look for glimmers of light where we can.
I just mailed a check to RAZOM, and I wrote a letter and mailed it with a check made out to
United 24 to the Ukrainian embassy in Wash DC. Thank you for providing these resources for action!!!! I am so ashamed of this development!!!! At least by taking these small actions, I can try to focus on what I have done, hope for what others will do, and try to continue to move forward instead of burning precious energy. Thank you again, "Feathers" !
Thank you, Carol. It's so important not to be paralyzed by the flood of "aint't it awfuls" coming at us.
Doing something is not only therapeutic, it is itself part of how we preserve democracy. Self-government depends on engagement. Whatever action we take, no matter how small, it contributes to the exercise of power by the people. That's why I always try to orient "Feathers of Hope" towards activism.
It's also why James Carville is so wrong to advise Democrats to "play dead". Maybe Republicans will self-immolate, maybe they won't. But playing dead will never advance progress, nor will it ever enrich anyone's life.
Thanks, Reminds me of a line from "I'm still here". Goes something like. "If you don't want to be oppressed, don't act like you are." That said, probably a good idea to avoid doing anything stupid like write the White House. Kind of the opposite of "can't hurt, might help".
And now Trump "pauses" military support of Ukraine.
An American President siding with war criminal Putin against a war-time president Zelenski until Zelenski "shows more appreciation" ie, gets down and kisses Trump's boots - like all the Republican Congressmen and Senators.
I know that not all Americans voted for Trump, but enough did to give him literally dictatorial powers - he dictates, the American gov't follows, and praises, his every word.
And those who speak against His Excellency, they're "paid troublemakers."
The whole world of democratic countries is saying - we can no longer trust America.
Since when is Canada the US's enemy, and Russia its friend?
And to all those who "reluctantly" voted for Trump because of inflation - a month from now Trump's tariff's will spur global hyper-inflation, higher interest rates, market meltdown, massive job losses.
I remember an interview during the election with a woman in Detroit who said: I detest the man, but i've got 6 kids and can't afford groceries. I'd like to interview her next month.
And the Palestinian Americans, and the veterans, who voted for Trump.
Trump's promising a new "Golden Age" - what America (and the world) will soon have is a global depression. Who they gonna blame?
I'm 78 and I've never seen America so close to political, economic, and social collapse. This ain't no Golden Age coming down the pipe. This is chaos. Well done, Trump voters.

Thank you, Deepak. I very much appreciate the demlabs link as it's very data-heavy, and factual reporting is crucial right now.
Thank you again Mr.Weiss!
I have sent many comments out to get people to read your messaging about Impeachment. The only thing an honest and credible country can accept.
Education is the number one deficit in our country.

Her words expressed so eloquently what a great many of us are feeling today -- heartbreak mixed with renewed determination to defend democracy.
Why should we not fear that Mump is monitoring that email address to Zelensky's office at the capitol or that the office is there at all?
Well Dale, I've long since abandoned any expectation of privacy online. Every word we post, every email we send can probably be retrieved by someone with the skills to do so. The big question is: what dirt does Putin have on Trump?
Maybe with all the firing of people from FBI, CIA, NSA, etc, maybe there will be a leak, and Trump will finally be exposed as a cowardly traitor.
I've wondered about this for a long time too, Abraham. But the more I learn about Trump's "career", the more convinced I am that there is no such dirt -- or more accurately, there is so much dirt that nothing in particular is a threat to him.

Showing support for Ukraine with exterior house lights works for me. They also need donations. Thank you Mr. Weiss for all you do.
