I'm sorry, but I don't see any light anymore; only darkness. The felon has the presidency, MAGA owns Congress, the courts are in his pocket, way beyond merely corrupt. In all probability, this was our last election, so there's no tunnel for there to be a light at the end of.
And this isn't just the end of America. Ukraine will fall, Palestinians will be wiped out to the last life. What country can step into America's empty shoes? Who can restrain the autocrats of the world? And how long will there be a habitable world without our insistence on a response to climate change?
Look at social media tonight. The cult is already snarling their delight at liberal losses, issuing veiled threats of retribution to come. If you can find a light in this darkness, please point it out. I'd gladly cling to it.
t.s. eliot's poem, The Hollow Men" ends with this:
"This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper."
His world didn't end. There were better times to come, and pray God we will also survive this. But right now it's all darkness, and I can't see how.
Thank you for the reminder of Raskin's wise response. I've not slept much and I am gutted, but need to find some normal moments today in order to recoup my balance.
I am absolutely stunned! I do not know what to do or say at this moment, but life will go on, and one step at a time will keep us all moving until a new path becomes clear. ((((((((((((((((((BIG HUGS))))))))))))))) to everyone who needs one this morning!
We'll all need Raskin's inspiration and whatever we can draw from each other, our respective faiths, and any other sources we can call on. It will be a challenging 4 years, but, more than anything else politically, the Democrats have to get their s*** together as a party and figure out how to get past this.
thank you, Jerry - I do not have words, but I do remember "thank you", so I offer it to you here, in appreciation of you and your effort, and to the people here on FoH and beyond, and to any of the whisps of threads that will hold us together.....
dumbfounded. stunned. I am in California, and the sun is not up yet. I am going to make a cup of tea and go sit in my back yard and watch for the sun to rise and the birds to emerge.... and yes, as MB Keifer said here three hours ago,"Pray God". This confusion and disorientation I feel is unfamiliar to me, but the sunrise and the birds won't be. Pray God..... carol, santa rosa
Thank you Jerry, for shining your light and reminding us to not give up at this devastating moment. We have one another and somehow we will persevere. We must. Love and strength to you and all on this blog.
We go to work or we die, along with those we love. Hard work is good work. All we can count on is that we are going to die. What we do until then is all that matters.
Substack is the serious forum. See who the comenters subsribe to. on and on. There you will find the army of truth to continue the fight. You. WE are not alone. Vietnamese under water in rice paddys breathing through straws. They drove out the mightiest army in the wotld. WE have it easy.
Someone called last night "An America Selfie" - and it isn't a pretty picture.
But for now, I think we all need to find solace and joy in our own lives, and let history play itself out. Because it's out of our hands, at least for a while. We did what we could; we fought the good battle. And sometimes Evil triumphs, for a while. But then the arc of justice swings back. Our time will come. By the 2026 mid-terms maybe America will have woken up from the Trump Trance and said "what the fuck did we do" - then a Blue Wave will wash away the garbage. But till then, we need to find peace and fulfilment in our own lives, away from this malignant ugliness.
I have no energy to listen to people "explain" what happened. It happened. I'm grieving. And I need a place to heal and find the best way to move foreward, and then to share what I'm learning. So I'll start here.
Thanks, Jerry. I will keep reading this reminder. We will grieve for a long time, but it won’t stop us from finding ways forward. And we will continue to look to you for feathers of inspiration and hope.
Thank you so very much for this reminder and for the opportunity to realize that we will overcome this terrible loss and be stronger and a better Democratic Party for it. The Democrats and Independents need to recalibrate and figure out how to reach people who he was able to reach. Sadly, but hopefully gradually they will not be getting what they voted for and will realize that the party that works for them is us!
Damn social media, Russian bots, podcasts and right wing propagandists and news outlets.

thank you, Maria. words fail me right now, but thank you to you. carol.
Although I’m not ready to hear this yet, I know we must go on and resist the extremes that we know are coming.

Time for some healing, before the next battle.
To healing.
